Acro dance is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It increases flexibility and uses group formations in the dance style.

Ballet is a performance dance which originated in Italy during the fifteenth century.  It is flexible, graceful, elegant and poised.

Ballet involves pointe work, flow and very precise acrobatic movements. Each movement is an expression of a specific emotion.


Contemporary / modern dance is a dance style that rejects many of the strict rules of classical ballet, rather it focuses on the expression of inner feelings. 

It combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. 


Hip-hop dance refers to ‘street dance’ styles primarily performed to hip-hop music. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking and popping. 

Hip-hop is a good and fun place to start for amateurs. 


Jazz is the dance that encompasses almost all forms of dancing. It is a fun, high energy dance style that is suitable for all ages. 

Jazz dancing often uses bold, dramatic body movements and it allows for dancers to often mix different styles into their dancing.


Lyrical dance is a dance style that blends elements of ballet and jazz dance. It is generally a little more fluid than ballet and also somewhat faster, although not as fast as jazz. 

Lyrical dance is orientated toward the dancer’s emotional responses. Movements are characterized by fluidity and grace, with the dancer flowing seamlessly from one move to another. 


Musical Theatre combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting and dance. Throughout the song there may be elements of acting, conversations as well as choreographed dance steps.


Tap dancing is an exciting form of dance in which dancers wear special shoes equipped with metal taps. Tap dancers use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats.
